August 23, 2013LE MARS, Iowa | Arlene E. Tapper, 89, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jean Ziettlow officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation with the family will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Arlene Elizabeth Zinn was born on Jan. 5, 1924, in Hartley, Iowa, to Albert and Ida (Peters) Zinn. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. Arlene attended country school near Hartley. The family later moved to Larrabee, Iowa, where she continued her education and graduated from Larrabee High School. As a young woman, she worked in the Hartley and Cherokee, Iowa areas and later at Younker’s in Sioux City.
Arlene was united in marriage to Raymond Tapper on Jan. 24, 1948 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Arlene and Ray farmed in Preston Township for many years. While living on the farm, Arlene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Preston Township. In 1988, Arlene and Raymond moved to Le Mars. They became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Arlene has always been an active member of her church. In the late 1970s, Arlene was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had been a survivor since 1979.
Survivors include her children, Gaylen Tapper and his wife MaryJane of Akron, Iowa, and Arla Rae Bormann and her husband Tony of Cumberland, Wis.; four grandchildren, Mike (Dawn) Tapper of Le Mars, TJ Tapper of Akron, Nicholas (Greta) Bormann of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Scott (Catherine) Bormann of Greenwood, Ind., and their sons, Mathias and Dominic; three sisters, Elaine Buenger of Aurelia, Iowa, Berandean Florke of Spencer, Iowa, and Beverly (John) Elgersma of Sanborn, Iowa; two brothers, Forrest Zinn of Arcadia, Calif., and Kenneth (Karen) Zinn of Lake Park, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ida (Peters) Zinn; her husband, Raymond, on Aug. 5, 2005; and a brother in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Mike Tapper, T.J. Tapper, Nick Bormann, Scott Bormann, Joel Buenger and Brian Elgersma.
