William Alfred Ewin was born on 08 Jul 1877, in Rutland, La Salle Co., Illinois. He enlisted in the military on 27 Jun 1898, Spanish-American War. William was a private in Co. M, 52 Iowa Infantry during the Spanish-American War. He was mustered in 27 Jun 1898, Sheldon, Iowa; mustered out 30 Oct 1898, Des Moines, Iowa. Physical description from military record: 5 feet, 11 ¼ inches tall; complexion was dark; light brown eyes and brown hair. Personal marks: scar one inch in length on posterior aspect right leg. He weighed 142 lbs. He was not married. Co. M., 52 Iowa Infantry duty station was Camp Thomas, Georgia.

William Alfred Ewin died on 19 Aug 1952, in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California. Death certificate cites disease or condition directly leading to death was bronchial pneumonia with antecedent cause of metastatic carcinoma of the stomach. At the time of his death he lived at 1314 Field Avenue, Inglewood, Los Angeles, CA, and had lived there approximately eight months. He was buried on 22 Aug 1952, Inglewood Park Veteran’s Cemetery.
