MRS. HOUGH, LONG RESIDENT AT GULL, DIES IN HOSPITAL
Mrs. Carlton M. Hough, who with her husband, had lived for 23 years at their home on the west side of Gull Lake, died at St. Joseph's Hospital shortly after 1 P.M. today.
Mrs. Hough, formerly Bell Van Sickel before her marriage to Mr. Hough in Chicago, had lived in this area for many years with her parents who also had their home on the west side of Gull Lake. She had taught in the school at Pillager for two years before going to Chicago where she married Mr. Hough.
Mr. and Mrs. Hough were associated together in the school work for nine years, coming to this area and establishing their home at Gull Lake in 1912. They were among the first settlers in that region.
Mr. Hough retired from active participation in school work just prior to coming to this sections to establish a residence. During their long residence on the lake they had become widely known, having hosts of friends who were saddened today by the news of Mrs. Hough's death.
Mrs. Hough was born in Cedar Falls Iowa and came to this area early in life.
Surviving besides her husband are two brothers, H. W. Van Sickel of Glendale, Cal., and Harry Van Sickel of Gull Lake; and one sister, Mrs. O.L. Loudenslager of Covina, Cal. Several nephews and nieces also survive.
Funeral will be Monday at 2 P.M. at the Whitney Funeral Home. The Rev. B. B. Olmsted will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
