Last rites were held Monday afternoon in Sioux City for Mrs. Mary Kovarna, a resident of Plymouth county for fifty years before moving to Sioux City a few years ago. Mrs. Kovarna was widely known in the south part of this county and was esteemed and respected among a large circle of neighbors and acquaintance.

Mrs. Kovarna died Saturday in a Sioux City hospital following a sickness of several weeks.

Mrs. Kovarna was born in Michovo, Bohomia, September 18, 1867, and came to the United States with her parents when she was a girl of fifteen. They settled near Hinton and lived in Liberty township which has been the family home, since.

She was married a year after her arrival in Plymouth county to Vaclav Kovarna and with her husband lived on a farm until in recent years. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Anna Flannery, Miss Mayme Kovarna, of Sioux City, Mrs. Helen Hartman, of Merrill, five sons, James and George Kovarna, of Merrill, and John, Adolph and Harry Kovarna, of Hinton. There are twenty-two grandchildren. A brother, Charles Pavlovic lives in Omaha.
