DEATH TAKES WM. LANG. Former Remsenite Dies At Home In Tripp, S.D. of Cancer. Was 61 Years of Age.
News of the death , at his home in Tripp, S.D., of William E. Lang, a former Remsen farmer, was received by Remsen friends and relatives last Thursday with profound regret. Mr. Lang died Thursday of cancer of the stomach, with which he had been a sufferer since December, 1920. He was 61 years old, and is survived by his widow, two daughters and one son. The body was brought to Remsen for burial, the funeral taking place Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Lang took sick last December, and although his ailment gave him considerable discomfort continually, he was able to be up and about until twenty-four hours prior to his death.
William E. Lang was born at Elgin, Iowa, September 26, 1860, and grew to young manhood in his parental home. He came to Remsen from Elgin at an early age, and worked for various farmers in this vicinity for a few years. In 1886 he returned to Elgin and In June of that year he married Miss Emily Reinhard of that place. Mr. and Mrs. Lang came to Remsen shortly after their marriage , and for one year Mr. Lang operated a meat market on the site of the present Schaafs store, which he later sold to Nick Schaafs. After selling this enterprise the Lang family moved to a farm north of town, and lived there until two years ago, when the moved to Tripp, S.D.
Mr. Lang’s death was a sorrowful surprise and a shock to his scores of warm Remsen friends. He was well known throughout this community and during his long period of residence here he had gained the utmost confidence and respect of all who came in contact with him. He was an excellent husband an father, and his little family is sorely grieved over his too early departure.
The body was brought to Remsen for burial, and rested in the home of the deceased’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Caroline Lang until the time of the funeral, which was Sunday afternoon. Services were held in Christ Lutheran church, and interment in the Remsen cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emily Lang, two daughters and one son: Mrs. Henry Brunken, Miss Emily and Mr. Clarence W. Lang, all residing at Tripp. He is also survived by one sister and three brothers: Mrs. Wm. Siefke and Rudolph Lang of Remsen, and Nicholas and Gottlieb Lang of Santa Cruz, Cal. One brother, Frederick, died in Remsen seven weeks ago. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, August 4, 1921, page 1, column 5.
