Hinton, Iowa-Shirley M. Papenhausen, 92, of Hinton passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012, in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton with Rev. Steve Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran church Cemetery in Hinton. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Moringside Chapel in Sioux City.

Shirley was born June 2, 1920, in rural Hinton, the daughter of William “Carl”and Marie (Casper) Muecke. She grew up and lived most of her life in the Hinton area.

She married Leonard P. Papenhausen on July 2, 1941, in Coleridge, Neb. He died Oct. 23, 1997 in Sioux City.

Shirley worked for IBP for about 10 years, and for Palmer Candy Company for 10 years.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran church, Ladies’ Aid and Fellowship Club. She taught Sunday school at the church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, gardening, canning, cooking, and playing cards.

Survivors include her three children Bruce (Betty) Papenhausen of Phoenix Rita (Robert) Zeisler of South Sioux City and Kevin (Dawna) Papenhausen of Sioux City, two brothers, Menin “Bud” Muecke and Dave Muecke, both of Hinton, a sister, Luella “Toots” Stabe of Sioux City, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Jim Papenhausen of Apache Junction, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents,her husband, Leonard, her son, Timothy, and a grandson, Evan.
