Douglas H.. Carlson, Sr.

Douglas H. Carlson Sr., 73, of North Sioux City, died Saturday, Feb 5, 1994, at his home, due to cancer.

Services were held at the Westlawn Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, with Dr. Robert E. Peters of Lawson's Community Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery, under direction of Christy Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Carlson was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Sioux City, son of Oscar K. and Martha Carlson. He married La Verne A. Watterson Jan. 25, 1941, in Dakota City. He served with "Darby's Rangers" in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a plumber for Foulk Brothers Plumbing for 32 years, retiring in 1977. For the past 15 years, he wintered in Donna, Texas. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 18, and of the North Riverside Lodge 662, AF&AM.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Doug Jr. and his wife Mary of Akron, Iowa, Richard and his wife JoAnn of Lawton, Iowa, and Dan Carlson of Sioux City; seven daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Johns, Mrs. Kenneth (Carolyn) Stultz, Jeanne Carlson, Mrs. Dennis (Kathy) Brunsting, Mrs. Leo (Sandy) Welch and Mrs. Mike (Laurie) Blanchard, all of Sioux City, and Mrs. Dennis (Cheri) Sander of Readlyn, Iowa; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a sister- and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Dave Hanson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Ed, two sisters, Helen and June, and two grandchildren, Tracy Brunsting and Whitney Blanchard.

Pallbearers were Steven, John and Darren Carlson, Chad Johns, Randy and Dennis Watterson and Troy and Todd Hanson.
