SIOUX CITY | Danny "Dan" Carlson, 59, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his residence.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Elies South of the Border, 1951 Leech Avenue, in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Dan was born in Sioux City, on Nov. 11, 1953, the son of Douglas H. and LaVerne A. (Watterson) Carlson. He attended Westfield (Iowa) schools and graduated with the class of 1972. He worked for Gateway for many years. His most recent employment was at Elies South of the Border, where he served as a bartender.

Dan enjoyed the time he could spend with his family and friends, as well as his pets, flowers and gardening.

He is survived by his brother, Douglas Carlson Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen of Akron, Iowa; his sisters, Mary Johns and her husband, Kenny of Sioux City, Carolyn Stultz and her husband Kenneth of Sioux City, Jeanne Carlson and her friend Greg Moore of Sioux City, Kathy Brunsting and her husband Dennis of Sioux City, Sandy Welch and her husband, Leo of Sioux City, Cheri Sander and her husband Dennis of Lawton, Iowa, and Laurie Blanchard and her husband Mike of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Jo Ann Carlson of Lawton; an aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Dave Hanson of Sioux City; along with many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Candice Banks.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and special friend, Mike.
