AKRON, Iowa -- Lavina Lewison, 77, of Akron passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron, with the Rev. Dawn Quame officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Lavina Rose Lewison was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sarah Rose Julia (Jammerthal) Chambers. She was baptized into the Christian faith. She attended country school and later Akron High School, where she graduated in 1947.

She was united in marriage to Richard William Lewison on Oct. 3, 1952, in Luverne, Minn. Together, they were the parents of six children, Cathy, Carol, Cheryl, Claudia, Rick and Cindy. Lavina raised her children and was a baby-sitter for many neighborhood children. Later, she went to work for Otis Radio in Hawarden, retiring in 1988. Her husband passed away Oct. 31, 1984.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Growing up, she was nicknamed "Rusty." She was an avid horse lover and an artist. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and plants. She loved watching the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She also enjoyed watching John Wayne westerns and listening to Charlie Pride and Alan Jackson. Lavina also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crocheting and playing checkers. But, most all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children, Cathy Dover and her husband, Lester of Akron, Carol Lewison of Le Mars, Iowa, Cheryl Krause and her fiancé, Smokey Forehand of Remsen, Iowa, Claudia Rasmussen and her husband, Mark of Beresford, S.D., Rick Lewison of Akron and Cindy Hutchins and her husband, Paul of Scammon, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Sarah Held, Cleo Dover, Christina Lewison, Christopher Krause, Rebecca Krause, Sarah Krause, Randy Rasmussen, Ryan Rasmussen, Kerri Jo Welch and Jande Hutchins; four great-grandchildren,: Hannah, Michael, Dante, and Jaycee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a half-brother, Clarence Chambers; a half-sister, Mildred Anderson; and a brother, Faye Chambers.

Pallbearers will be Randy Rasmussen, Ryan Rasmussen, Christina Lewison, Kevin Lewison, Smokey Forehand and Paul Hutchins.

She was the Rock that kept us all together. She will be greatly missed by all of her children. We Love You Mom!
