RITES ARE HELD SATURDAY FOR CYRUS P. KNAP
Lifelong Resident Of This Area Dies Feb. 5 After Long Illness
Cyrus P. Knapp, 78, member of a well-known pioneer family of southwest Plymouth county, passed away Thursday, February 5, at his farm home south of Westfield, after an extended illness.
Mr. Knapp was born April 24, 1880, on the homestead of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyprus Knapp, Sr., in Hancock township, Plymouth county, Iowa, early day residents there. He received his education in the rural schools and in Charles City College, Charles City, Iowa. He was married on December 23, 1907, to Miss Maud Fry, of Westfield. They resided on the original Knapp farm for 51 years. Mr. Knapp was interested in good schools and served on the Hancock township school board for over 40 years. He held various other township and county offices. In a wide circle of friends this good citizen was held in high esteem. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal church in Sioux City.
Surviving are the widow, Maude; a son, Cyrus A., of Westfield; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Kurfiss of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Clarence of Westfield and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas Episcopal church, Sioux City, Rev. Merlin Whitmer officiating. The nephews, Ivyl, Charles and Fay Knap, and Harry Nelson, and Amos Brown acted as pallbearers. Burial was in Logan Park cemetery, Sioux City.
