Karl Frederick Jammerthal one of the early day residents of western Plymouth county, passed away last Thursday, June 8, 1911, at his home in Westfield township, at the advanced age of 87 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

Deceased was born December 24, 1823, at Hostetten, Germany. He married Fredericka Deere on January 10th, 1850. To them were born thirteen children, of whom five survive. One son died about sixteen years ago, the others passing away in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Jammerthal came to America in February, 1869, and settled at Waterloo, Iowa. They lived there one year and then went to Newell, Buena Vista county, where they resided until the fall of 1879, when they came to the present home on section twenty-two, in Westfield township. Here the wife and mother died March 8, 1886.

The children surviving are: Mrs. Christina Blank, who has made her home with him the past fifteen years; August and Leo, of Akron, Ia.; Mrs. Lena Hughes,of Oakville, Washington, and Charles of Roy, Washington. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Jammerthal was married a second time to Mrs. Marie Huebner, December 27th, 1888, she passing away three years later, no children being born to them.

He was a conscientious and consistent member of the German M. E. church for nearly forty years. His habits of industry and activity continued well into the later years of his long and useful life, and his honorable and kindly character won him the esteem of all who made his acquaintance. The sympathy of many friends is extended the sorrowing family.

The funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon by Rev. Grant Smith in the Akron M. E. church, and interment made in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives coming to the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meinzer and Mr. and Mrs. John Meinzer and son, of Burt, Kossuth county, Iowa, the gentlemen being nephews of deceased.
