An old resident of this vicinity, Mrs. George Ahrens died at her home southwest of Kingsley, on Monday, Jan. 15, after an illness of several months duration.
Mamie Belle Hodgeman, daughter of Rufus and Francis Hodgman, was born at Reedsburg, Wis. May 9, 1873, and died near Kingsley, Iowa, Jon. 15, 1923, at the age of 48 years, 8 months, and 6 days.
The family moved in Rochelle, Ill., when the deceased was but an infant and lived there until the year 1885, when she came to Grand Meadow township, Cherokee county, Iowa, where she made her home with an aunt, Mrs. E. Van Sickle.
She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Ahrens, Sept. 1, 1891. Their entire life has been spent in the vicinity of Kingsley with the exception of one year spent in Montana.
To this union nine chilodren were born, six dying in infancy. Three remain with the father to mourn this great loss. The children are as follows: Mrs. Robert Roberts of Pierson, Gladys Georgia and Herbert Francis, both of Kingsley. There are four half sisters, Mrs. Susie Dries and Mrs. Edith Crain both of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. Mattie York, and Roy Callen, both of Butte, Mont., and Mrs. Frankie York of Potomar, Mont.
The funeral service was held in the Congregregational church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Jan. 18. The body was laid to rest in the Kingsley cemetery. The kind neighbors showed their sympathy in a great way and did all in their power to help and relieve the sorrowing. The is a truly pleasing God.
