Reuben Anderson

Reuben C. Anderson, 92, of Hawarden died Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral service was Tuesday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Laird Keever and the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetary at Sioux City. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of the arrangements.

Reuben C. Anderson was born Sept. 13, 1907 near Beresford, S.D. to August and Jennie (Germundson) Anderson, He grew up near Beresford and also near Wilmar, Minn. He married Laura Pearl Kelley in January 1930 in the Dalesburg Lutheran Church rural Clay County S.D. Two daughters, Joyce and Patricia were born to this marriage. Mr. Anderson worked for farmers near Yankton, S. D., Jefferson, S.D. and then began farming on his own near Westfield, Iowa. He endured many hardships, such as flooding, during his farming years.

He married Margie Bedard Wilken on Jan. 12, 1967 at Akron, Iowa. They farmed near Alcester, S.D. until moving to Hawarden in 1974. Mrs. Anderson died April 12, 1990. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Associated Church in Hawarden. He enjoyed farming, visiting and spending time with friends at Central Cafe in Hawarden.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Joyce Leach and husband John of Albert Lea, Minn., and Patricia Jacobs of Sioux City; two sisters Agnes Lyckholm and Martha Anderson and husband Harold of Beresford, S.D. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milo and Verno.
