Difficult Surgical Operation

While here on Wednesday Dr. J. N. Warren of Sioux city, assisted by Drs. mammen, Hines, Richey and Reeves, performed an operation on Henry Frerichs with the hope that it may prolong his life.

Frerichs has been very sick for some time and it has developed that he was suffering from a cancerous growth in the extreme lower part, which almost fully obstructed the passage. From its location it was almost impossible to operation on it while the main bowel was performing its functions. An incision was made in the left side, the bowel was cut and removed from its normal postition and placed in the incision made in the side and then secured in place by the overlapping of flesh.

The opening is kept open by the use of a silver tube it is not believed that he will recover, but the operation will possibly prolong his life and he may recover.
