Note: It is believed that the correct spelling is Rhodes per her husband's obituary and her gravestone. Her mother's maiden name was Foster. She is buried in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Rhoades, wife of Thurman Rhoades, residing on the J. A. Watson farm north of town died at the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars, Tuesday, december 20, following a lingering illness at the age of 33 years and 7 months.
Mrs. Rhoades was born at Smithland, Iowa, May 20, 1899. Her maiden name was Laura Mae Oldis and she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Oldis. Her parents moved from Smithland to Kingsley when she was a girl of nine years old ande she was a girl of nine years old and she made her home there until her marriage to Thurman Rhoades, Rebruary 28, 1920.
They made theirhome in Plymouth county since their marriage with the exception of a year when they lived in O'Brien county.
Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades lived on farms in the vicinity of Le Mars for most of the time.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband and six cchildren, Sylvia, Wendell, Sumner, Darrell, Thurman and Richard; her mother, Mrs. John Oldis, of Kingsley; one brother, John Oldis, of Kingsley, and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hockett, of Pierson, Iowa; Mrs. Daisy Rosecrans, of Sioux City; Mrs. Dora Smith, of Stansberry, Mo.
Funeral Held Thursday
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon in the First Methodist church, the pastor, Rev. F. Earl Burgess, officiating.
Mrs. Rhoades when a young woman joined the Methodist church and was a loyal and interested worker. Mrs. Rhoades was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a devoted daughter, wife and mother and good neighbor, esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances in the community.
