Velma Clark, 100, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, with Pastor Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will be at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Tuesday.

Mrs. Velma Clark was born January 29, 1912 in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Elias and Emma May (Stevens) Crom. She moved with her parents to Pierson, Iowa in the spring of 1918 and received her education from Pierson Schools, graduating in 1930. On July 14, 1930 she was united in marriage to Ivan Clark of rural Kingsley. To this union, two children were born. In the spring of 1938, they moved into the town of Kingsley.

Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary Post #140 and Sewing Club. She and her husband owned and operated the “Clark Clothing Store” from 1945 through the spring of 1953. She became an employee of Iowa Public Service Company in June of 1953 and retired in January of 1977. She and her husband were proud to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1980 and their 60th in 1990. Ivan passed away December 3, 1990 at the Colonial Manor of Kingsley. Velma continued to live in their home and doing the upkeep until September of 2006, when due to health problems, she entered the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Velma enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, gardening, traveling to Minnesota, reading, cooking, baking, and hosting holidays in her home.

Velma is survived by her ten grandchildren, Dan McDonald, Mick McDonald, and Max McDonald all of South Sioux City, NE, Ellen Clark and special friend Dale Scheitler of Oyens, IA, Greg (Becky) Clark of Lawton, IA, Laura (Randy) Schiltz of Remsen, IA, Bobbi (Kevin) Martensen and Tim (Michelle) Clark all of Kingsley, IA, Todd (Jen) Clark and Tom (Michelle) Clark all of Sioux City, IA; special niece, Ruth Sherrill of Sioux City, IA; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ivan; daughter, Adrienne McDonald; son, Max W. Clark; brothers, Ralph, Carl and Earl “Dutch” Crom; sister, Hazel Jones; son-in-law, Dick McDonald; and daughter-in-law, Janette Clark.
