Gary M. Larson, 65, of Remsen, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, after a year-long battle with AML. He passed into eternity at his home with loving family around him.

Gary was born Dec. 18, 1946, in Le Mars, the son of Martin and Lucille (Frahm) Larson. He attended country school and finished his education at Le Mars Community School. He attended Westmar College in Le Mars and graduated with honors with a double major.

He entered the Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged because he developed diabetes in 1970.

He loved farming, his life's ambition, and tried to use methods that would not harm the environment.

He married Joy (Mills - Hunter - Roberts) on June 30, 2001. With that marriage, he became a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was loved deeply by all. He masterfully slipped from being single into this role.

He was a follower of Christ and attended Le Mars Bible Church. He attended Bible Studies and led Bible Studies until recently when his illness kept him from this.

He was proud to be a 4-H Shooting Sports instructor and was an NRA member.

He was a master woodworker and enjoyed hunting and fishing and the animals on the farm.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 11 years, Joy; a step-daughter Connie (Jeff) Hanson and their children, Maria (Dan) Goodman, their children Bailey, Trayden, Carter, and Hunter; Alison Hanson, Timothy (Danielle) Hanson; a step-son Ken (Bonnie) Hunter and their children, Jeremy (Kimi) Hunter, their children Emma, Madison, Luke; Angela (Barry) Boles, their children Brody and Cooper; Chelsea (Kyle) Plantz, their children Keegan, Kaeden and one soon-to-be born; Eric Hunter; Gary's sister, Bonnie (Gaylan) Lassen, their children Korissa Lassen, Tiffany (David) Gemas; Dan (Kristin) Lassen, their children Kienna, Kyra, Kolt; Brittany Lassen, and Kaitlin Lassen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncles whom he farmed with; his mother-in-law; a sister-in-law, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Le Mars Bible Church with Pastor Fred Gums officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the Le Mars Bible Church with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday evening. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.
