George W. Koenig, lifetime resident of LeMars, passed away at his home on April 17, 1956, at 11:00 p.m. He had been sick since last October.
George Koenig was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on February 6, 1881. At the age of 15 months he came to LeMars with his parents where he has lived most of his life. He attended Northwestern University in Chicago at which time he received the degree of Ph. G. For many years he owned the Rexall Drug Store in LeMars (now Lovelys.)
In early youth, Mr. Koenig joined the Evangelical United Bretheran church of which he was a lifetime loyal and faithful member.
On November 14, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Lyle Frase, at Nerstrand, Minn. Mr. Koenig took an active interest in civic affairs of the community, having served as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the school board, and president of the Lyons Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Elks Club and a life member of the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association. He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend.
Those left to mourn his departure are his devoted wife, Lyle, a son, Robert of Los Angeles, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Karl Kaupp (Anna) of DesMoines and the following sisters of Banning, Calif.; Mrs. Scott Stauffacher (Lula), Mrs. Grover Schneider (Emma), and a twin sister Mrs. C. L. Winters (Mattiel), a niece Mrs. Morse Hoorneman of LeMars, three nephews, Dwight Schneider of Denver, Colo.; Kenneth Kaupp of Des Moines; Robert Winter of Baltimore, Maryland, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be a the Calvary Evangelical United Bretheran church on Friday, April 20, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. K. L. Clawson officiating. Funeral arrangements are by Mauer funeral home. Burial will be in the LeMars City cemetery.
