Note: Her maiden name was Petty. Her mother's maid name was Combs.

TWO WELL-KNOWN WESTFIELD FOLKS CALLED BY DEATH

Rites Held Recently For Mrs. Mell Lower

Mrs. Mell Lower, a resident of Westfield-vicinity for more than 50 years, passed- away at Akron Community Hospital on Tuesday, December 20, 1955,, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 20 days. She had been receiving treatment for a fractured hip.

She was born September 30, 1868, in Rock Island county, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Petty. In 1898 she married John Lower, and to this union were born two daughters and four sons. Mrs. Lower had one son by a previous marriage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Ed Raynor; two sisters, Mrs. Royer Lias and Mrs. John barman, and two brothers, Joe and Elzie Petty.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Harold Jammerthal, of Akron, and Mrs. Joe Martin, of Sioux City; four sons, Fred, of Long Beach, Calif.; Fay, of Bronson, la.; Lone and Dort, of VVestfield,- and 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p. m. in the Congregational church at Westfield, Rev. Albert Walker officiating. Pallbearers were all grandsons of the deceased: Francis and Melvin Raynor, Lloyd Lawrence, Clyde McKee, Ed. Kiewel and Marvin Martin. Interment was in Akron Riverside cemetery.

Relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Alberreuter, of Danbury, la.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pendleton, of Ida Grove; Mrs. Charlie Corbin and daughter, of Smithland; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Boyd, of Yankton, and Fred Lower, of Long Beach, Calif..
