Death Claims Old Residents
M. P. Bogh Was Successful Farmer Many Years in Fredonia Township
Following an illness of only a few days M. P. Bogh, a prominent Plymouth County farmer for many years, died at his home, 126 First Avenue SE, in this city, Friday, April 23. The Sunday prior to his death, Mr. Bogh while walking down town suffered a stroke of apoplexy and never rallied from the shock, passing away five days later.
M. P. Bogh was a well known resident of Fredonia township for many year and was an extensive land owner and very successful farmer.
He was born in Aakgar, Denmark, January 20, 1857, where he received his early education and schooling. When 17 years of age he emigrated to America and shortly after his arrival came to Clinton county, Iowa, where he lived for several years and was united in marriage with Miss Sena Juhl in 1879. They settled in Fredonia township in 1881 where they farmed until they came to Le Mars ten years ago to make their home.
Eight children were born to their union. One daughter, Mrs. G. H. Schleuter, died a month ago.
He is survived by his wife and children, who are Peter Bogh, Garretson, S.D., Mrs. S. H. Lassen, Le Mars, Christ, Andrew and Marius Bogh of Fredonia township, Mrs. Ed Dornbusch and Mrs. Gerhard Porter, of Howard, S.D. There are 18 grandchildren. He also leaves one brother living at Helfs, Denmark.
Mr. Bogh was a member of the order of Elks, and a member of the order of Eagles.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the residence and services at the First Presbyterian church, Rev. J. A. Hills, the pastor, officiating, and was largely attended by old neighbors and friends.
Mr. Bogh was widely known in the community throughout his long residence. He was a successful farmer, and a good citizen. He took an interest in community affairs and in politics and was one of the local democratic leaders in earlier days. He was a kind father and husband and provided well for his children.
