Mrs. William (Freda) Onnen
Mrs. William Onnen, 79, Richland, S.D. died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 1986) in Morningside Manor nursing home in Alcester after a long illness.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 in the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. The Rev. James Sandvik officiated. Musical selections sung by Isabel Onnen, were "A Closer Walk With Thee", and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pianist was Joan Christiansen. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron under the direction of Schroeder funeral home. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ernie Petty, James Houge, Don Knecht, Wayne Knecht, Ed Zachow, and Arvin Rosenbaum.
Mrs. Onnen, the former Freda Amanda Jans, was born Nov. 24, 1906, to Charles and Freda Mann Jans at Luverne, Minn. She married William Onnen May 18, 1924 in Elk Point. He died in September 1961. She worked for many years at Union County Farms Nursing home and also at River Sioux Park, rural Richland for many years. She resided in the Elk Point nursing home for eight years and has been in Morningside Manor in Alcester the past four months.
Survivors include three daughters, Violet Pulscher of McCook Lake, Nancy Pies of Fort Bliss, Tex., and Lenora Beck of Richland; three sons, Alfred of Seguin, Tex., Virgil of Pierpont, and Clinton of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Gara Rosenbaum of Elk Point and Marie Starkman and Minnie Rosenbaum, both of Akron; a brother, Karl of Akron; 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
