DEATH OF A. L. YEATON SHOCKS AKRON

HEART DISEASE CLAIMS HIM AS VICTIM—FROM AKRON REGISTER MARS GLOBE-POST

Although it had been quite generally known for several days that Mayor A. L. Yeaton of Akron, had been waging an unequal but valiant struggle against the inevitable, the news of his passing away at 5:40 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, June 17, 1926, spread over the community like a pall and his legion friends were cast down in sorrow, for the loss of such a prominent and useful citizen came as a distinct shock—a loss which was feared might come, yet which was vainly hoped might in some way be averted.

Mr. Yeaton was taken ill about 10 days previous to his death, with an attack of acute indigestion, following which a very serious heart condition developed, an ailment to which he had been more or less subject during a period of about three years. The very best of care and every known means at the command of the medical profession were used in an effort to stay the progress of his illness and to bring some measure of relief to the sufferer. His suffering was great at times, yet he bore it with characteristic patience and uncomplaining.

Ansel Lennan Yeaton, son of Percy T. and Eva A. Yeaton, was born at Bangor, Maine, July 23, 1871. and died in Akron, la., June 17, 1926, at the age of 54 years, 10 months and 24 days. His father, a civil engineer by profession, died about, the year 1897 and his mother in 1901. Reared in his native city of Bangor, Mr. Yeaton received his schooling in the schools of that city and was graduated from the high school in 1888. He then took up the study of law, but presently heeded the advice of Horace Greeley to young men and came west locating at Bowdle, S. D., where he was engaged in the practice of law with his uncle, C. E. Lennan, for three years, at the end of which time he went to Aberdeen. S. D., and there entered into a partnership with A. F. LeClaire, in the practice of law and in the real estate business. After a residence of two years at Aberdeen, Mr. Yeaton moved to St. Paul, Minn., where he engaged in the real estate business, with particular reference to the sale of South Dakota lands, connected with the Harmon Land company, and after being located there for about a year extended his connection to cover a wide area and for about five years was a traveling land agent, meanwhile continuing his headquarters at St. Paul, and still engaged in the sale of Dakota lands. In 1895 Mr. Yeaton had secured admission to the bar in South Dakota and while at St. Paul decided to again engage in the practice of his profession.

With that end in view, he came to Akron in 1904. where he had ever since made his home. He secured admission to the bar in Iowa and formed a partnership in Akron with A. F. Johnson in the practice of law and in the general real estate business, Mr. Yeaton giving particular attention to the law and Mr. Johnson to the real estate department of the business. This mutually agreeable arrangement continued until Mr. Johnson met his death in an automobile accident in 1911, after which Mr. Yeaton continued the business alone, until September, 1914, when lie formed a partnership with Arden E. Ross, of Akron, which continued until Mr. Ross decided to withdraw from the firm and locate at Tulsa, Okla.. in 1917. Ho continued in the successful practice of law up to the time of his death and handled many cases from this vicinity in the district courts.

Nominally a republican in politics, be always took an active interest in affairs of state and was particularly concerned in local civic affairs. In the spring of 1912 be was elected mayor of Akron and so efficient and satisfactory was his administration that lie was re-elected to that position in 1914 and 1916. After an interval of years he was again prevailed upon by friends to make the race for mayor on the Peoples' ticket in March, 1926, when lie was again elected and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death.

On April 1, 1905, Mr. Yeaton was united in marriage to Miss Helen Broadbent of this city. To bless this union three children were born—two daughters and one son -Theodora. Frances and Edward. These loved ones, together with one brother, C. J. Yeaton of McLaughlin. S. D., are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband, father and brother.

Funeral services were held at the family home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, a brief sermon being delivered by Rev. A. L. MacMillan. pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was made in River Sioux cemetery. The Masonic lodge had charge of the funeral.
