Ena M. Sampson

Ena Marie Sampson, 85, of Akron, died Saturday, June 26. 1993, at the Akron Care Center after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. -William Flemr officiated. Jon Harris, vocalist, sang "How , Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Carol Harris, organist. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Kenneth Searls, Tom Searls, Bill Searls, Jay Dirks, Terry Burcham and Mark Morehead.

Mrs. Sampson was born Feb. 5, 1908 in Hamburg, Germany, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Hanson) Heesch. She was raised in Remsen, Iowa by the Thomas Dierkson family, after the age of nine months. She attended Union Consolidated School near Remsen. She married Kenneth Sampson, July 11, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa. They farmed in the Akron area. Mr. Sampson died August 9, 1938. After his death Ena and her four daughters moved into Akron. She was owner of Tip Top Cafe in Akron for five years; cooked at the Akron Hospital for five years; cooked at the Akron Community school for 24 years; and was a seamstress for many years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron, Ladies Aid, the church circle and Senior Citizen club in Akron.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Dan (Virginia) Searls and Mrs. John (Joy) Dirks, both of Akron, Mrs. Norman (Marilyn) Morehead of Merrill and Mrs. Leland (Joyce) Burcham of Elk Point; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Bill Heesch of Remsen; two sisters, Minnie Miller of Sioux City and Lillian Nelson of Cherokee; three sisters-in- law, Laura Dierkson of Alcester, S.D., Alma Heesch of Remsen, and Mary Davis of Lake wood, Calif. .

She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl.
