REMSEN, Iowa | Alex Renken, 19, of Remsen passed away suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Thursday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com.

Alex was born on Feb. 8, 1993, the son of Keith and Angie (Vaske) Renken. He was raised in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 2011. Alex had been a Le Mars Daily Sentinel paper carrier since he was eight years old. At the age of 16, he then began working at Wal-Mart in Le Mars.

Alex was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was also an altar server. He loved to help others and spend time with his family. He enjoyed camping, playing and watching football. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and North Carolina Tarheels basketball fan.

Survivors include his parents, Keith and Angie Renken; his brother and sisters, Cassandra, Phillip and Rachael, all of Remsen; foreign exchange student sister, Yeo Kyung An of South Korea; maternal grandparents, Aloysius and Susie Vaske of Remsen; paternal grandmother, Ethel Renken of Le Mars; aunts and uncles, Rick Vaske, Laurie (Todd) Gerritts, all of Remsen, Joe Vaske of Houston, Texas, Andy Vaske of Remsen, Mary Vaske of Le Mars, Connnie (Franco) Taracena of Sioux City, Tom (Katie) Vaske of Le Mars, Connie (Glen) Kellen of Le Mars, Nancy (Steve) Scholten of Alton, Iowa, Julie (Eric) Athens of Le Mars, and Joyce (Ryan) Barents of Le Mars; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Renken and uncle, Terry Renken in infancy
