Helen Dot Thompson, 88, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

Helen was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Fairbury, Neb., the daughter of Clyde and Violet (Wineinger) Shelburne. She married Gordon A. Thompson June 12, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury, Neb. They made their home in Sheldon, Iowa, before moving to Le Mars, in 1968.

Helen was a nurse's aide, a beautician, and a Den leader for the Cub Scouts to name a few of her interests.

She was a member of the Le Mars Doll Club and the Christian Women's Club. She loved her doll collection, crafts, quilting, gardening, canning and theater.

She was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, Le Mars, and will be remembered for her zest for life, her fun sayings, her faith, and her love of family.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Gordon, of 57 years; son, Terry Thompson (Kris), daughters Vicky Swan, Sarah Albers, and Beckie Aitken (Thomas); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers Leo, Kenneth, and Harold Shelburne; three sisters-in-law and one son-in-law.

A memorial srvice will take be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. Bishop Thomas Aitken will officiate. A private family graveside service has taken place at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is assisting Helen's family with arrangements.
