Eldo Baack

Eldo Charles Henry Baack was born September 24, 1895, the son of Julia and Henry Baack on a farm south of Ireton. He grew to young manhood in this community. On August 22, 1917, he was united in marriage with Isabelle Thomas at Ireton and the couple subsequently farmed in Plymouth and Sioux counties and at Holland, Minnesota. Following this they operated cafe’s at Merrill; at Milford and at Ireton. He also was employed by the Milford Hibrid, retiring from this work in 1960. He passed from this life on Thursday, December 7, at 1 a.m. following a few days sickness at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 13 days.

Survivors include his widow; 3 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Conny) Baker, Merrill, Iowa; Mrs. Wayne VanderFeen, Ireton; and Patricia, Mrs. Virgil Tammen, also of rural Ireton; 19 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ida Berges of Holland, Minnesota and Mrs. Jim Jones, of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Arthur of Pipestone, Minnesota and Otto, of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, at the Satterlee funeral home at 9:45 a.m. at Ireton. Church services were held at the Little Sioux Lutheran Church at Milford, Iowa, at 2:00, burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Frederick had charge of the Ireton service.

Rev. Christian Notsand and Rev. Harold Destal conducted the service at Milford. Casket bearers for Ireton included Roy Winkleman, Bas Muilenberg, Eldo Degen, Leon DeRaad, Wilbur VanderHam, and Bryan VanWhye. Casket bearers for the service at Milford included Ralph Nelson, George Ringler, Ed Koap, Orville Taylor, Andrew Hoffman, and Dick Koap. Satterlee funeral home of Ireton had charge of the arrangements.
