Ethel Bray

Ethel (Mary) Bray, who had resided in LeMars for over 35 years, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at her home at 134 2nd avenue southwest in LeMars on Sunday, December 10.

Mary Ethel Coon was born July 20, 1889, at Ireton, the daughter of the late Fremont Coon and Margaret White Coon. She was married to Frederick W. Hatton on November 30, 1907, in LeMars. He preceded her in death in 1926.

On July 20, 1927, she was married to W. Clifford Bray in LeMars. He passed away in 1941. Mrs. Bray was a retired grocery clerk having clerked for many years at Long’s Grocery and at the Dorr Grocery. She lived in Ireton until 1917, after which she went to Oregon for 3 years returning to the Ireton-Craig vicinity. She moved to LeMars in 1926.

Funeral arrangements have been set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mauer Funeral Home. Rev. James Ransom will officiate and burial will be in LeMars City cemetery.

Survivors include four children, Wayne Hatton, Longmont, Colorado; Mrs. Lura Ritchie, Hornick; Mrs. Ella Gronemeyer, Merrill; Mrs. Iris Sternberg, of LeMars; a sister, Mrs. Walter Middleton, Emmettsburg; ten grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The Mauer funeral home has charge of arrangements.

NOTE: Her first name is spelled ETHYL (not Ethel) on her tombstone in the LeMars City Cemetery Block 15, also known today as LeMars Memorial Cemetery.
