RITES HELD TUESDAY FOR R.S. EYRES
Occupied same farm for 55 year periodRichard Staples Eyres, son fo Isaac and Mary Walsh Eyres, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 18, at the home of his son, Richard K., 11 miles southeast of LeMars.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, from the Union Township Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Merle Dunn, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in LeMars cemetery.
One of a family of eleven, Mr. Eyres was born near Millbrook, Manvers township in Durham County, Ontario, Canada Nov. 11, 1861. In 1882 at the age of 21, he came with his family to Plymouth County, Iowa.
On March 5, 1895, Mr. Eyres married Katherine Kohl and they began farming in Union township, a mile and a half from the original Eyres farm. For 55 consecutive years they resided on the same farm.
They celebrated their golden wedding in March 1945, and their 55th anniversary in March 1950.
Mrs. Eyres died June 5, 1950. Mr. Eyres' passing is the third loss in the family in the past year. His son-in-law Robert Young, having died in August.
Children who survive are Mrs. Dorothy Young, Stanley A., of Utica, N.Y., Richard K. of Union township. Donald F. preceded his parents in death in February 1942. His brothers and sisters who preceded him in death were William and Zack of LeMars, Thomas Wesley, Mrs. Annie Stokes and Ernest of Union township; Mrs. Margaret Pearson of Carson City, Nev.
The three who now survive are Mrs. Sara Begg and Miss Ethel M. Eyres of LeMars and Charles of Union township.
Mr. Eyres was a faithful member of Union Township Presbyterian Church since 1891 and a member of its session since 1903.
