FRED THOMPSON, ONCE THEODORE ROOSEVELT SECRETARY, DIED TUESDAY

Former Neighbors at Merrill Learn of Demise

Merrill, Iowa, Record Special:
Fred Thompson, former Merrill resident, passed away at the hospital at San Diego, California, Tuesday afternoon at 12:45.

Mr. Thompson was born at Markeson, Wisconsin, 68 years ago. He was one son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, who were long time Merrill residents. He moved with his parents to Danbury and graduated from high school there, and later attended Highland Park College.

He came to Merrill as a young man and was employed in the Merrill and Hinton banks. He married Miss Sue Schneider of Merrill.

They lived in Washington DC for a number of years. Mr. Thompson acted as secretary for Theodore Roosevelt for a time.

They moved to Seattle, Washington, about 35 years ago where Mr. Thompson was a high school principal for thirty years. He taught classes in business education. Three years ago he retired and he and Mrs. Thompson moved to San Diego where their only son, Carlyle, lived. They traveled extensively during the last three years, their travels including a European trip.

He is survived by the widow, Sue, and one son, Carlyle, of San Diego, and one brother, Harry Thompson, of Merrill. He was preceded in death by one brother, John, and one sister, Nettie.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thompson of Merrill left for San Diego Monday after receiving word of his serious sickness and he passed away before their arrival.
