Bruce A. Knapp
Bruce A. Knapp, 47, of Westfield died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1993, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness of cancer.
Services were held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Go With a Song in Your Heart" sung by Michelle Rahn with Pam Von Hagel as organist. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.
Casket bearers were Kirk Banks, Barry Knapp, Bill Michael, Carey Banks, Jim Cody and Herk Von Hagel.
Honorary bearers were Tom Everingham, Terry Gries, Jeff Miller, Keith Weaver and Jim Weber.
Mr. Knapp was born October 7, 1946, in Sioux City, the son of Cyrus and Priscilla (Alden) Knapp. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy December 29, 1965 and served in South Vietnam from July 1967 to July 1968. He attended Western Iowa Tech Community College veterans farm class in agriculture for three years. He married Karen Brunken January 22, 1972, in Le Mars. He was a lifelong area farmer with the exception of 2 1/2 years in the Navy. Mr. Knapp was a 4-H leader for several years and received awards for Grassland Management. He was an avid cattle breeder in Angus and Polled Herefords.
Survivors three sons, include his wife; Matthew and Cole Knapp of Westfield and Jason and his wife, Beth Sneller of Le Mars; his father and stepmother, Cy and Ceil Knapp of Sioux City; his mother, Priscilla Knapp of Akron; a sister, Judy and her husband, Bryce Gehrmann of Carson, Iowa; and two brothers, Roger and his wife, Jan of Old Tappan, N-J-, and Steve and his wife, Colleen of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and an aunt, Marjorie Kurfiss.
