Former Union County Farmer Dies At Home Of Son January 18

Clarence Waterbury, who had resided most of his life as a farmer in Union county, S. D., northwest of Akron, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 1950, at the home of his son, Vernon; at Dell Rapids, S. D., at age of 80 years, 11 months and 25 days.

Clarence Ed. Waterbury was born in Fairfield county, New Haven, Connecticut, February 12, 1869. When he was three years of age, he, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Waterbury, and sister, Carrie, came to Union county when Dakota was still a territory and where he lived all his life with the exception of three years spent in Connecticut when a young man and where he was engaged in the woodworking business, and the past year, which was spent with his son in Dell Rapids. He endured many of the hardships of pioneer farming in his youth, and lived on his own farm fifty-two years.

Mr. Waterbury was united in marriage with Mrs. Cora Blomberg, August 8, 1910, to this union a son, Vernon, was born. He was also a kind and loving father to two step-children, David and Viola, and a foster son, Leland. His wife preceded him in death May 8, 1946.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his sons, eight grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Haynes and Mrs. August Kaelke, and two brothers, Irving and Albert Waterbury. The sisters and brothers are residents of Akron vicinity; He will be greatly missed in
the family circle.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at 2:15 at the Rossow Funeral Home here and at 3:00 o'clock in the Big Springs Baptist church, Conducted by Rev. D, A. Miller. Interment was in the Big Springs cemetery.
