Leslie M. Bowen
Leslie M. Bowen, 96. of LeMars, died Friday, Oct. 20, 1995, at the Orange City Municipal hospital. He was born July 7, 1899, to Charles and Minnie (Cook) Bowen on the family farm near Maurice, Iowa. He attended country school at the Sherman Township school.
He married Nettie Ferguson on April 23, 1927, in Sioux City. After their marriage, he drove a Standard Oil Company tank wagon for a couple of years. In 1929 he began to farm on his parent's farm. He continued farming until his retirement in 1969 when the couple moved to LeMars. During his retirement he enjoyed flower gardening.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of LeMars.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene Wagner of LeMars and her husband, Dale Wagner of Heritage Home in Orange City; Dawn Orban and her husband, Wesley, of Box Elder, S.Dak; two granddaughters and one grandson; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Barretto of LeMars.
He was preceded in death by this parents; his wife, Nettie in December 1978; a daughter, Blythe in infancy; and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the First Baptist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Interment was at 9:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Reading Township, rural Ireton.
Visitation was Sunday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
