Frank Mattas
Frank J. Mattas, 88, lifelong Merrill resident, died Monday (Feb. 11, 1985) at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after an extended illness. He was a retired fireman and carpenter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Jack Hebard will officiate and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Oelson-Halweg Post 125, American Legion, will conduct military rites at the graveside. He was a World War I Army veteran.
Mr. Mattas was born Feb. 20,1896, at Merrill to Joseph and Mary Buryanek Mattas. He married Clara Gardner April 6, 1940, at South Sioux City. She died in 1981.
Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Carrie) Marienau and Mrs. Eddie (Verna) Johnson, both of Le Mars, and Mrs. Edith Bauerly, Sioux City, and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
