Marcus Soldier Missing.
Mrs. Roy Scherner Tuesday received word from the war department stating that her brother Eilert Seggerman is “missing in the performance of his duty,” says the Remsen Bell-Enterprise.
Eilert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Seggerman of Marcus, formerly of Remsen, was a machinist mate, first class, in the navy air corps and was on patrol duty between Nova Scotia and England. – Le Mars Globe Post, March 22, 1943, page 1.

Body of Remsen Man Brought Back Home For Burial.
The army transport, Joseph V. Connolly, arrived in New York City last Sunday bringing the bodies of 6,200 war dead from Europe and from Argentia, New Foundland. Among the bodies from the latter point was that of AMM/2 Eilert W. Seggerman of Remsen, next of kin being Alma Scherner.
The bodies will be shipped to Chicago for distribution and it may be three or four weeks before they will reach their final destination, where the families will decide whether they wish private services or desire a veteran’s organization to bury them with military honors. A guard of honor representing the branch of service to which the deceased was attached will accompany each body. – Tuesday, October 28, 1947, page 1.

Remsen Bell-Enterprise: The body of Eilert Seggerman, aviation machinist’s mate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Seggerman of Marcus, formerly of Remsen, will be brought back home for burial but the date Is not known by the family.
Eiler’s body was brought to the United States from a military cemetery in Newfoundland. He was killed March 3, 1943, in Greenland, while convoying planes to Ireland. The young sailor was born on a farm near Remsen and was a brother of Mrs. Gilbert Wictor.
The body was destined by military authorities for burial in the national cemetery at Golden Gate, Calif., but the parents applied for a transfer and have been assured that burial will be in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Nov. 11, 1947, page 1.

Remsen Bell Enterprise: The body of Eilert W. Seggerman, hero of World War II who lost his life in Greenland March 3, 1943, while convoying airplanes to Ireland arrived in Remsen last Friday and will be laid to rest Sunday afternoon in the Remsen cemetery, with military honors.
Services will be in the Moeller funeral home at 2 o’clock followed by services in Christ Lutheran church. The Rev. A. Noack will conduct services.
Eilert was born on a farm near Remsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Seggerman, who now make their home at Marcus. He enlisted in the navy in October, 1937, at the age of 18, and for seven years saw duty at San Diego, Miami, the Panama Canal Zone, Greenland and Newfoundland.
The body rested in a grave in the United States military cemetery in Newfoundland and along with others was brought to this country last month on the army transport Joseph V. Connolly, landing in New York harbor. The body was destined for burial in the army memorial cemetery in Los Angeles but the parents applied for its transfer to his old home town. The request was immediately granted.
Besides the parents in Marcus, the young navy man is survived by four brothers and seven sisters. They are: Robert, Marcus; Herman, Kingsley; Harm Jr., Meriden; William, Los Angeles; Mrs. Roy Scherner, Mrs. John Ott and Mrs. Gilbert Wictor, Remsen; Mrs. Dale Dorr, Marcus; Mrs. Marvin Johnson, Paullina; Mrs. James Rexroat, Sioux City and Mrs. Albert Strand, Los Angeles. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Nov. 25, 1947, page 1.
