WAS REMSEN PIONEER. Mrs. Margaret Juetting Was Among First Settlers in That Town.

Remsen Bell-Enterprise: The many Remsen friends of Mrs. Margaret Juetting were grieved last Saturday when the news was spread that this esteemed lady passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ed Matern, near Huron, S.D. Mrs. Juetting died last Thursday afternoon after a very brief illness.
Mrs. Juetting had gone to Huron about a year and a half ago to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Matern. On several occasions since then she made visits to her old friends in Remsen, remaining her but a few days, and she always seemingly enjoyed the best of health. Her relatives say that she took sick on December 8 with pneumonia and that other complications developed and she sank rapidly. Death came at 1 o’clock on the afternoon of December 16. The body was brought to Remsen Friday and taken to the Wm. Long home where the funeral services were held.
The deceased was a native of Germany, where she was born on October 16, 1858. She lived with her parents until she reached young womanhood, and in her native home was united in marriage to William Davids, also a native of that country and locality. After spending about eight years in Germany following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Davids decided to come to the United States. Mr. Davids came here alone to look for a location, and a year later was joined by his wife and three young children.
The family came directly to Remsen, where they were counted among the pioneers. Dr. Davids was a jeweler and for many years worked at his trade and conducted a store here. He was also an accomplished musician and his services as such were much in demand in the old Remsen band and for special occasions. Mr. Davids died in 1906. In 1912 Mrs. Davids was united in marriage to Herman Juetting, of Remsen, who passed away in 1924.
Surviving are three children; Mrs. Ed Matern, of Huron; Mrs. Herbert Baldwin of Sioux City, and Mrs. Mark Leetsch of Fort Dodge, Iowa. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Dec. 28, 1926, page 5.
