Cornelius Herman Croon, son of Onno and Anna Croon, was born July 21, 1884, at the old Croon homestead in Grant township, Plymouth county, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. During his youth he remained at home and worked for his parents as well as for others. In 1912 he moved with his parents to Craig, where he his parents to Craig, where he opened and operated a garage for several years. After this he was engaged in the general merchandise business at Craig for several years. In his later years he worked in various towns and at different occupations and the last two years he was employed at the Plymouth Co-op Service station at Craig.
He had complained of a severe cold for several weeks, although he continued working. On Friday he became confined to his bed and complained of severe pains in his side and chest. A physician was called but his lungs were filling with fluid and nothing could be done. He died of pulmonary edema on Monday morning at 3:20. He had reached the age of 55 years, 4 months, and 20 days
He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged mother, Mrs. Anna Croon, two sisters, Mrs. Aug. Ludwig, of Craig, and Mrs. Ella Grubbs, of Hill City, S. D. He was preceded in death by his father, Onno Croon, and by a brother, who died in infancy.
Funeral services which were held Wednesday afternoon, were largely attended, more than filling the church, and many out of town friends attended. Burial was at the Grant township cemetery at the side of his brother. Pallbearers were H. G. Eilers, John G. Popken, Eilert Ludwigs, Nelson Hutton, Elmer Schuette and John H. Schmidt. Satterlee's funeral home of Ireton were in charge of arrangements
