Rites Saturday for Mary Kohnke.
Mrs. Otto (Mary) Kohnke, 95, of Remsen, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 26, 1991 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 30 at Christ Lutheran Church here. Rev. James D. Wilson officiated. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kohnke, the former Mary Steffen, was born Sept 12, 1895 in Henry Township, Plymouth County. She grew up in Henry Township and attended rural school there.
Her marriage to William Koch took place Feb. 9, 1916 at Remsen. They farmed south of Remsen for many years. Mr. Koch died in 1936.
She married Otto Kohnke in December of 1951. After their marriage the couple made their home in Remsen. Mr. Kohnke died August 25, 1970.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Roma) Kendall of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Esther Schlerf of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. James (Arlene) Wolf of Remsen and Mrs. Marcel (Lois) Beelner of Park Rapids, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Fred, Elmer, Carl and Walter Steffen; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Jensen and Minnie Steffen, in infancy; two half-sisters, Mrs. Dora Johnston and Mrs. Ella McKinley; and two grandchildren in infancy. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, April 4, 1991
