Dorothy M. Mohning, 84, of Marcus, Iowa, formerly of Remsen, Iowa, died Monday, November 20, 2000 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. Rev. Peter Boe officiated and burial was at the Remsen City Cemetery. Cindy Johnson was the organist and the congregation sang, “In the Garden”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Visitation began at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, with the family present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. , all at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. Arrangements were by the Earnest & Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.
Dorothy was born June 5, 1916, rural Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Lizzie (Jordt) Neuenschwander. She grew up in the Remsen area. She married Donald Mohning August 31, 1939 at Remsen. After their marriage, Dorothy and Donald farmed in the Remsen, Iowa, and Long Prairie, Minnesota, areas. Donald died in November of 1973. After her husband’s death, Dorothy moved to Phoenix, Arizona, before returning to the Remsen/Marcus area.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert (Bob) Mohning and his wife, Donna, of Phoenix, Arizona, and William (Bill) Mohning and his wife, Lori, of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Maxine Shea and her husband, Jack, of Marcus, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Jason Mohning, DeAnna Mohning, Crystal Mohning, Maureen Shea-Wilbur, Ann C. Marie, Terence Shea, Brian Shea, William (Bill) Shea, Robert (Bob) Shea and Dan Shea; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, one brother, Arthur; and one sister, Marie Van Wechel.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, namely, Jason Mohning, Terence Shea, Brian Shea, Bill Shea, Bob Shea and Dan Shea. – family news clipping
