Early Settler Is Claimed By Death. Mrs. Benjegerdes Lived Here Seventy Years.
Mrs. G. H. Benjegerdes, 87, one of the earliest settlers in Marion township, died Wednesday, January 6, at her home. She was suffering from influenza and complications incident to increasing years.
Anna Meyer was born in Clayton county, Iowa, March 19, 1856, where she grew to young womanhood and was married September 3, 1874, to George H. Benjegerdes. Following their marriage they came to Plymouth county, establishing a home in Marion township. Mr. Benjegerdes developed the land into a fine farm and was a successful farmer and stock raisers. He died June 16, 1941.
Mrs. Benjegerdes is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charles Martin and Mrs. Charles Harnack of Garretson, S. D., Lena Benjegerdes of Manly, Iowa, Minnie at home and a son, Dietrich Benjegerdes, living on the home place. She was a member of a family of twelve children, two sisters and four brothers surviving her. There are five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Benjegerdes was a member of the German Evangelical church and in her younger days was active in community and social affairs and a helpful factor in movements for the betterment of the common good.
The funeral will be held at ? o’clock Sunday afternoon in St. Paul’s Lutheran Evangelical church in Remsen, Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating, and interment made in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan 7, 1944, page 8.
