Farmer Dies of Injuries

Herman Schuttpelz, 61 years old, Perry Township farmer, died early Thursday morning in the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City of injuries suffered a little over two weeks ago when he fell from a straw stack on his farm.

Mr. Schuttpelz was stacking straw on his farm while threshing. A jug of water was thrown to him and as he was about to catch it, he apparently lost his balance and toppled to the ground striking his head and causing an injury to his neck and spine.

He was born in Germany, May 3, 1870, and came to the United States and directly to Perry Township when 19 years of age.

He was a successful farmer and gained many friends who respected him as a good neighbor and citizen.

Funeral services were held Friday at 9 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament church in Sioux City, Rev. T.M. Coghlan officiating and burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Schuttpelz; six sons, Carl of Hubbard,Nebr.,George and Herman Jr. of Hinton, Iowa, and William, Richard and Elmer who reside at home; four daughters, Mrs. Leon Rodwig of this township, Mrs. Dean Bartleson of Atlantic, Iowa, and Misses Christine and Dorothy who reside at home; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Conway, of Lake Wood, Ohio, Mrs. Hulda Darrow of Bay Village, Ohio, and Mrs. August Roth of Cleveland, Ohio, and two brothers, Carl and William Schuttpelz both of Cleveland, Ohio.
