Dr. Paul Wuebben, Remsen native, dead at age 38.
Dr. Paul Lane Wuebben, 38, Knoxville, Tenn., professor and a native of Remsen, died unexpectedly Saturday (Sept. 11, 1976) after a brief illness. He died at a Knoxville hospital.
Relatives at Remsen said Dr. Wuebben had suffered a severe attack of hepatitis about five years ago. He had not recently been ill.
Dr. Wuebben was born Aug. 25, 1938, at Remsen and was graduated as valedictorian of his high school class at Remsen public school in 1956. He was graduated in 1960 from the University of Iowa summa cum laude.
He was chosen by the University of Iowa as its representative in the Rhodes scholar program and accepted the Woodrow Wilson fellowship for graduate study at the University of Wisconsin where he earned a master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees.
Dr. Wuebben was a sociology and social psychology instructor and did research at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
In 1973 he accepted a call to the University of Tennessee where he di d research in his chosen field and was an advisor and guide for those seeking advanced degrees.
He also gave lectures at the University of Houston in Texas.
He co-authored a textbook for graduate students and wrote numerous articles for professional journals.
He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
He married Jannice Wilcox Dec. 29, 1959 at Strawberry Point.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelicl Lutheran church at Remsen with Rev. Julian Swanson officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home, Remsen.
Rev. Paul Wuebben, father of Dr. Paul Wuebben, has recently retired after serving as pastor of St. Paul church for more than 40 years.
Survivors are his wife of Knoxville and his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Wuebben of Remsen.
Casketbearers will be Dr. George Bhornstett from the University of Indiana, Dr. Richard Rozelle of the University of Houston, Donald Dawson of Paullina, Roy Maass of Larimer, Toby Parriott of Spirit Lake and Lynn Nitzschke, Akron. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel,, Sept 14, 1976, page 1.
