William Siefke Claimed By Death. Well Known Early settler in Meadow.
Death claimed William Siefke, pioneer settler in Remsen community, at the Sacred Heart hospital in this city Monday.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, March 11, 1864, William Siefke came to this country in 1882, at the age of 18 years. He came directly to Remsen where he was employed several years by his step-brother, the late Henry Sievers. He then moved to Los Angeles, spending three years there, returning to Remsen in 1888.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth Lang at Remsen in 1893 and they settled on a farm northeast of Remsen. On retirement from the farm they lived in Remsen. Mr. Siefke was prominent in civic and community affairs and held various offices while living in Meadow township.
HE is survived by his wife and children, Albert and Charles of Remsen, Joseph of Monrovia, Cal., Mrs. Henry Ducummon of Cleghorn and Mrs. Marion Dorr of Remsen.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Paul Wuebben, and interment made in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Friday, Feb 5, 1943, page 1.
