Dorothy M. Presuhn, 97, formerly of Remsen, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, in Kennewick, Wash.
Dorothy was born in Plymouth county, Iowa on June 24, 1919, the daughter of Edward and Alvena Erichsen Nitzschke. On Aug. 28, 1937, she married Harold F. Presuhn of Virgil, S.D., her beloved husband of 49 years.
Dorothy lived most of her life in the Remsen area, farming with her husband, and was employed 15 years as a nurse’s aid at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. Harold and Dorothy moved from the farm to Remsen in 1976. Harold died after a brief illness in 1986. In 2001 Dorothy moved from her Remsen home to Port Orchard, Wash.
Dorothy leave to cherish her memories, 2 sons, Gerald (Hertha) of West Bend, Wis., and Roger (Debra) of Hart, MIch.; two daughters, Rheta (Carl) Adrian of Kennewick, Wash., and Janet (Ace) Anderson of LakeBay, Wash.
With fond memories of her frozen desserts and chocolate chip cookies, Dorothy leaves 13 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, August Nitzschke of Remsen and Lloyd (Gloria) of Rock Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold; sister, Lucille (Anderson), and two brothers Lyle and Donald.
At Stafford Suites in Port Orchard, Dorothy continued to bake and cook, took care of the flower gardens, and was able to attend baseball games of her beloved Mariners. She leaves for her family beautifully embroidered linens and fond memories of intense Pinochle games.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran in Remsen, where Dorothy was a member for more than 80 years. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Feb. 15, 2007, page 21.
