DEATH OF MRS. NAGEL. Was Well Known Resident of Remsen Vicinity.
On Monday morning, July 5, at 11:45, death came to claim Mrs. Anna Nagel, an old resident of Remsen vicinity, living among her children southeast of Remsen. Her death was due to bronchial pneumonia, with which she was bedridden for a number of weeks, although for many years she was in poor health. She was 77 years old
Mrs. Nagel suffered severe injuries in an accident nine years ago, and was in poor health ever since that time. A great portion of the last nine years were spent in the sick room.
Anna Marie Nagel was born on April 5, 1843, in Daegerschlact, Wurtemburg, Germany. She grew to young womanhood in her parental home in that country, and there was united in marriage in 1866 to Martin Nagel.
Mr. and Mrs. Nagel, together with their children, came to the United States in 1889, and immediately settled near Remsen on a farm, living there ever since. The husband of the deceased passed away seventeen years ago, and since his death Mrs. Nagel made her home with her children.
The deceased was the mother of fourteen children, of whom ten are still living, one daughter, Mrs. Anna Marie Klingbeil, preceding the mother in death. The remaining children are: Joseph and John Nagel, Lebanon, S. D.; Mrs. Barbara Dorr, Marcus; Martin Nagel, Gettsyburg, S. D.; Mrs. Christina Stegemann, Holstein, Ia.; Mrs. Frederika Steffen, Remsen; Adam Nagel, Remsen; Mrs. Paullina Dorr, Remsen; Mrs. Rosa Letsche, Marcus; Mrs. Louisa Dorr, Plainview, Neb. She is also survived by forty-seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, with services conducted by Rev. Fred Wahlers, of Christ Lutheran church, services being at the home at 1 o’clock and at the church at 2 o’clock. Interment was in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 13, 1920, page 1.
