Erwin Neuenschwander, 96, of Remsen, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Erwin Neuenschwander was born March 9, 1911, at rural Remsen, the son of Fred and Lizzie (Jordt) Neuenschwander. Erwin was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in both the rural school system and Remsen Public School from which he graduated in 1929. HE was then engaged in farming. In 1933 he married Florentine Recker. On Nov. 18, 1948 he married Lois Raetz at Orange City. They made their home near Remsen where they were engaged in farming. They retired on the farm in 1977 and moved into Remsen in 1978. Lois died Feb. 18, 1993.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing and trap shooting.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Martha Jo Neuenschwander of Scotts Hill, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lori Neuenschwander of Citrus Heights, Calif., Lisa and her husband Bill Durr of Roseville, Calif.; one stepgranddaughter, Heather Monroe of Linden, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter Kathryn Durr of Roseville, Calif.; one great-grandson, Erik Neuenschwander of Bagdad, Iraq; three brothers, Robert and his wife Mary of Scottsdale, Ariz., Elmer of Remsen, and Glen and his wife Loretta of Yakima, Wash.; several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Lee and his wife Madyln; and two sisters, Dorothy Mohning and Marie VanWechel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will in Remsen City Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen where there will be a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Casketbearers will be Weston Dittmer, Aaron Easton, Dwayne Douvia, James Harpenau, Jack Shea and Dave Vander Hamm. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, May 7, 2007, page 5.
