Longtime Remsen city librarian dead at 83.
Mrs. Dora Johnston, 83, longtime head librarian at Remsen, died unexpectedly Sunday (Sept 9, 1973) at Floyd Valley hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Johnston retired Jan. 1 as head librarian at the Remsen city library, a post she had held for 20 years. She also served for many years as treasurer of the Remsen Cemetery Assn., a position she still held.
A lifelong Remsen are resident, she was Plymouth county TB chairman for the Easter Seal drive, a member of the Remsen Federated Women’s club and of Christ Lutheran church ladies aid.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran church, Remsen, with Rev. Walter Kurth officiating.
Burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
Mrs. Johnston was born Oct. 27, 1889, in Plymouth county. Her husband was the late S. B. (Mack) Johnston.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Ruth) Matney of Schenectady, N. Y.; a son, Dr. Ray Johnston of Los Alamitos, Calif., a sister and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a son. - Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Monday, Sept. 10, 1973
