PIONEER SETTLER DIES
Herman Nitzschke Was Resident of County Forty-Three Years
Herman Nitzschke, a resident of this community for forty-six years, died Saturday, August ,17 at his home near Remsen following a stroke of paralysis.
Friederich, Herman Nitzschke was born April 17, 1861 in Golzern, Saxony, and continued to live at the place of his birth until he was 22 years of age, and in 1883 he came to the United States, and located in Cherokee county. Here he worked on farms for three years, and on December 31, 1886, was united in marriage to Meta Hotzler. The couple immediately moved to a rented farm in Garfield township, Plymouth county, and for twenty-three years they worked and saved on various farms until they were able to buy a place of their own. In 1909 Mr. Nitzschke purchased the farm in Remsen township on which he lived until death overtook him.
Mr. Nitzschke was the father of ten children, all of whom remain, with their mother, to mourn the loss of a loving father and husband. The children are: Mrs. Ida Erichsen, Edward, Mrs. Laura. Hanno, Paul, Otto and William, all of Remsen; Mrs. Martha Grauer, Cherokee county; Herman, Minneapolis, and Elmer and Alfred at home. There are twenty-four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A.C. Ilten, pastor of Trinity church, at the Nitzschke home Monday, followed by church services, and burial was made in the Amherst cemetery. The services were largely attended.
