Jay Lehner

Jay Lehner, 85, lifelong Plymouth county resident and retired farmer, died April 25, 1980 at Floyd Valley hospital after a 6-week illness. He had been hospitalized nine days.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mauer funeral home. Carla Wilde played "In the Garden," and accompanied Donald Wilde as soloist. Rev. James Ranson officiated. Burial was in the Kingsley city cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars. A prayer Service was held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Casket bearers were grandsons, Merlin Heimstra, Charles Baker, Ronald Friedrichs, Jerry Lehner, Joe Lehner, Bill Lehner and Tim DeBoer.

Mr. Lehner was born Aug. 25, 1894, in Union township, Plymouth county, to John and Alice McCartney Lehner. He lived here all his life and farmed in Union county township from 1922, retiring to Le Mars in 1972. He also had been engaged in painting during his active years. His marriage to Marguerite Bruce took place July 12, 1921, in Le Mars. She died in September 1974.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, four grandchildren and two sisters.

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Orlo (Keith) Heimstra, Letcher, S.D.; Mrs. Howard (Joy) Baker, Correctionville; Mrs. Merrill-(Hope) Friedrichs, Anthon and Mrs. Maynard (Betty) DeBoer, Archer; three sons, Verl and Dale Lehner, both of Le Mars, and Delmar Lehner of Archer; 36 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a sister, Alice Blacksten of Mitchell, S.D.
