Claribell Husman, 93, of Cherokee passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, Iowa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Richard Arndt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Claribell was born Sept. 27, 1914, at Hinton, Iowa, to Calvin and Elma (Galusha) Pearson. She attended Hinton Schools. She was married to John Husman on Aug. 30, 1930 at Sioux City. The couple lived and farmed west of Hinton before moving to a farm north of Quimby, Iowa, in 1944.
She was a farm wife and mother of six children. She worked as a nurse's aide at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for several years following the death of her husband in 1967. She had lived on a farm north of Quimby until 1970, when she moved to Cherokee. Claribell entered Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia in 2004.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, the Church Circle, WAC Neighborhood Club and did quilting with the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to dance, made many beautiful quilts for her family, many crewel needlework projects, pillows, pictures and enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful flowers.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters, Wilfred Husman and his wife, Bonnie of Marcus, Iowa, Calvin Husman and his wife, Virginia of Quimby, Iowa, John Husman Jr. and his wife, Amy of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Ronald Husman and his wife, Maritta of Sioux Falls, S.D., JoAnn Schmidt and her husband, John of Pflugerville, Texas, and Rosemary Steffen and her husband, Kell of Greenville, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Fladry of Corry, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Husman of Le Mars, Iowa, Dorothy Madden of Le Mars, and Beth Pearson of Hemet, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 23, 1967; a sister, Leora McInerney; two brothers, Ira and Robert Pearson; a grandson, Aaron Steffen; a great-grandson, Dustin Englebrecht; and a half brother, Glen Knecht.
