William M. Welch
William M. Welch, 72, formerly of rural Luverne, Minn., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, at a hospital at Upland, California.
Funeral services were Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Luverne with Rev. Leonard Clasen officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Engebretson funeral home of Luverne.
He was born May 16, 1899, at Westfield. He married Nellie Goodness Feb. 14, 1922, at Akron.
He farmed in the Huron, S. D. and Luverne areaas from 1925 to 1952 when he went to the Sioux Falls; S. D., area where he worked at stockyards. He then operated the Sioux Empire Market moving to California in 1961 where he operated a business at Chino. He retired in 1967.
Mr. Welch was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, Farmers Union, Pen Club and Retired People’s Club of Upland.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Irvin (Alice) Davis of Decatur, Ill, Mrs. Roger (Jeannie) Baker of Ellingham, Ill.’ three brothers, Joseph of Homer, Michael of Westfield, Matthew of Sioux City; two sisters Mrs. Katherine Tobin of Westfield and Mrs. Daryl Taylor of Akron and 18 grandchildren.
